Sony BDP-S270 Blu-Ray Player 1080P
I received a Magnavox blue ray player from my son this past Christmas. I waited a few weeks to hook it up. After running all the connections and being ready to pop a disc in, the drawer would not open. Needless to say, it was boxed up for it's return to Walmart. My son bought it for a good price after receiving a $40 gift card from Walmart. It was $118 less the $40 so $78. I intended to get the same player but the clerk said it would be easier to just refund the price either to the CC used or a gift card. I chose the gift card so had $120 plus to spend.
I immediately found stacks of the Magnavox players but happened to spot this Sony S270 and it was priced at $94 and was able to acquire Netflix, Pandora etc which the Magnavox couldn't do. I decided on the Sony and applied the difference toward a Vizio sound bar I had been wanting. It was very easy to set up and the picture is amazing on our Toshiba 1080 TV. Today, I decided to try out the wireless features. I have a Trendnet wireless gaming adapter I had hooked up to my Direct HD /DVR receiver for apps etc but after getting an Apple TV device, I very seldom used it. I decided to try it in the LAN on the player even though the directions stated to use the USB connection. Guess what? It works perfectly!! It's very easy to set your player to use the many applications available. Today., I've watched a Netflix movie, looked at some YOUtube videos and am listening to Pandora as I am writing this review.
I purchased this unit on 1/23/2011 at Walmart. If you are wanting a great player at an amazing price, check now before they are either gone or the price increases!
