Sony DVP-FX950 9-Inch Portable DVD Player

Sony DVP-FX950 9-Inch Portable DVD Player
Pros -
This DVD player is well built and pretty durable. The screen is probably one of the best displays available (even though the unit is a little pricey!). The car adapter, 120V-240V power adapter, and remote control are a huge plus for those of us that travel with kids. Even though our car had the built in movie screen, my oldest daughter wants to watch her own movies on trips. The battery life is very good, but not what advertised. I can probably get 4 1/2 hours out of a charge versus the advertised 7 hours (which is still very good). I guess, if you want to turn the display brightness way down, you could stretch it out that far.

Cons -
Even though the remote control is excellent and the touch controls on the screen work well, the screen controls are a little finicky for people with larger fingers. The addition of a USB 2.0 port is outstanding until you try and use it for anything other than .jpeg and .mp3 files from a protable device. Files not supported: .avi, .wmv, .mpeg, Divx, etc; Even though the unit will digest every flavor of DVD+/- R, RW, CD+/-R, RW. This was my biggest reason for marking the unit down. As a traveler with smaller kids, I was looking forward to burning a bunch of .avi or .wmv files on a disc or USB drive and taking them on the road instead of a DVD library - Sony missed the boat on this, in my opinion.

Overall great system, even though it is a little more pricey than other similar device. Video quality and battery life do separate it from the rest though.
