Samsung BD-C5500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Samsung BD-C5500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player
I read all the reviews on this unit here and other places, many not so good. I decided to take a chance on this unit. I wanted a good BD/DVD player of course, but I also wanted to get off my Home Theater PC which I used for netflix and watching pics and downloaded video content. So I want a nice Netflix interface and DNLA (DLNA is the capability to play files from your PC's )

One of the big items on these players is the Netflix interface on most only allows you to view your instant que, so you still need to go to a computer to search and add items to your que. What a PIA. From all the research I could find, most of the major players, including this one are this way, except for some Vizio players.

I contacted Samsung support over chat and asked them to verify the Nerflix interface. To my surprise, they informed me that with the latest software updates, it does now support Search and Genra browsing!

So now for $100, I found a player that did everything I need.

I have had it for several days now and I am totally pleased. Movies play great, both DVD and BD (is a little slow loading Blu Ray, but I don't mind that). The Netflix interface is EXCELLENT. Full search and browsing that rivals the normal PC interface. I have now installed Samsungs PC Share Manager DLNA software on two computers on my network and every thing plays fine (pics, video, music). It is a little quirky, but manageable so far. I may try one of the other DNLA servers I read about.

Lots of other fun apps there too like pandora, vudu, cinima now, among others.

Some reviews talked about a slow remote. I see no such problems.

In summary, this is one of the coolest AV toys I have had in a while. It consolidated a bunch of stuff I do and made it easy for the wife to enjoy. This is a great little player for $100.

Oh yes, This may be wireless capable, but it is not wireless ready......... I am not even sure because I have wired ethernet and want it that way for maximum bandwidth.
