Although NetGear has apparently abandoned creating firmware upgrades for this unit, it is still a top-shelf media player. If you don't care about watching YouTube videos on your TV, you will probably be very happy with the unit.
If you want to play HD quality media from a NAS or your computer, you will need to use a wired connection - as the wireless will not be fast enough in most cases. I installed a Seagate 2TB hard drive in mine and transfer HD video to the hard drive prior to viewing. It takes a little pre-planning but works great.
The skip forward and back functions work IF the media is encoded properly. Some newer .MKV files won't play, but a conversion to .avi fixes that.
It's too bad firmware development has stopped for this unit. It could be a Great player if NetGear had continued supporting it.
